This morning, the Vikings and wide receiver, Stefon Diggs, agreed to a contract extension worth $72 million over a period of five seasons. The contract has the potential to reach a grand total of $81 million if all incentives are met throughout the contract. $40 million of the deal is guaranteed along with a $15 million signing bonus.
Diggs, who still has one year left on his rookie contract, is now officially set to stay with the Minnesota Vikings until the 2023 season is complete. He will be 29 years old at that time.
There was much speculation surrounding the Vikings about whether or not they were able to re-sign both Stefon Diggs and linebacker, Anthony Barr. With Diggs now extended, the focus turns to locking up Barr for the longterm as well. The Vikings have limited amount of cap space left, making any extension with Barr a tough proposition. But, Rick Spielman and Rob Brzezinski have done an incredible job thus far, locking the core players of this team up to long term and team friendly deals.
Let’s see if they can pull it off one more time.
